Let’s hear from Simon our PM and how he wants us to change the future for our kids

Well folks it is getting down to that time of the year again when we are all going to attempt the 5x50 challenge.

But what have I been up to over the past 12 months and what are my hopes for the future?

The past 12 months have been a real sea of change for me on the business front - about this time 12 months ago I decided I was going to set up my own business so it is fair to say the stress levels have been pretty high at times. A year has passed and i have to say exercise has got me through a fair bit of those stressful times.

Although I had experience in the past of helping to run a business i had never been the one making the final decision before and at times that is a hard place to be. I can think of numerous occasions in the last year when my head was a bit all over the place and it was then i turned to the trainers for the answers. Exercise brings clarity for me and more often than I not I found the solution whilst passing through my local park or pounding the streets of the west end of Glasgow.

I am glad to be able to say i have experienced all of the mental wellness this challenge brings along with the physical benefits. The mental strength that exercise can give you should not be underestimated.

So to the future - one of the big aims of the 2014 challenge is to get more children involved (if you haven't got the schools pack yet then get in touch with me for a copy). As most of you know i have 2 young kids who take up a lot of my time but i try hard to involve them in exercise to install good habits from a early age.

Sometimes it is the small things that kids do that really touch you - the other night I came home with my 2014 challenge kit (yes the core team get their kit a bit earlier than our fantastic challengers) and the first thing my daughter did was try the top on and start running about the house. She immediately associated the 5x50 branding as 'exercise'. I am very hopeful this year she will join me a few times even if it is just round the block. Their future is in our hands so I urge you if you have kids to get them active with you and you will all get so much more back from the challenge.

If you haven't signed up yet and are still not sure if the challenge is for you try reading a few of our blogs from previous years and you will find some truly amazing stories. So come on now, get signed up and experience the magic of the 5x50 challenge. I can assure you it will touch you forever.
