The 5x50 Core team would like to thank all of our amazing challengers for their patience over the past 24 hours whilst we have had some IT issues.
We thought you deserved an explanation as to what was going on ...
In simple terms, we have been truly overwhelmed by the sign up response we received from people wanting to get involved with the challenge and for that we thank you all for telling everyone about the challenge.
In the past 48 hours we have had probably about 1,750 people sign up to take part which has resulted in us smashing last year's total challengers. At the time of writing this we currently have over 4,650 taking part - what a fantastic number and we are so pleased.
As you can imagine this late surge meant our system needed to be upgraded and quickly - yesterday evening (GMT) we were averaging about 150 hits per second on the website. Our systems were upgraded as quickly as possible but this upgrade meant that various search engines took a bit of time to regulate this new traffic and web activity.
Thanks to our amazing web team, Healthy Websites, who were working on fixing the issues until 1.30am (GMT) last night and again back at it at 7.30am (GMT) today we hope we are now back on track. We can't thank them enough for being so helpful and going beyond the call of duty to help us.
We really appreciate your patience and if you have emailed firstname.lastname@example.org with any issues and have as yet not received a response we will get to you as quickly as possible. You might not be aware that the Core Team is made entirely by volunteers with day jobs to attend to and they are working as hard as possible to respond to you.
We really hope you are all enjoying the challenge and it is truly amazing to see so many people taking part - the Core Team are all over the moon with the sign up numbers.
The Core Team
ps - if you know anyone still wanting to sign up we will close registration on Tuesday 1st April at midnight (GMT) so please ensure they don't miss out.
